Today’s Circle of Grace is NE Atlanta, GA (ID #84). Atlanta is the capital city of Georgia and one of the most stable and prosperous cities in the world. It has been a center for commerce since the Civil War and has been known as the city that was “too busy to hate” because of its citizens’ progressive views during the Civil Rights Movement.

Today’s Circle of Grace is NW Baltimore, MD (ID #249). This city has a rich history as one of the largest prerevolutionary cities and a site of one of the most famous battles. It was here that Francis Scott Key wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner” as the British attacked and failed to destroy the fort. Today the city attracts visitors to the National Aquarium, a large, glass building in the Inner Harbor.

Today’s Circle of Grace is Ocala, FL (ID #171). Ocala, meaning “Big Hammock,” gets its name from the Indian settlement that once stood in its place. The settlement was abandoned by the Indians after a Spanish attack and was resettled by the US military. They established a fort, which became the basis of the town. After rail service was introduced, the town began to grow. Today the town is known for its horses—riding events and breeding.

Today’s Circle of Grace is NW Daytona Beach, FL (ID #327), known as one of the few places in the world where it is legal to drive on the beach. The hard sand of Daytona is what first made it famous for its racing track. It is frequented by over 200,000 NASCAR fans for the opening race each year.

Today’s Circle of Grace is SW Alexandria, VA (ID #844). This city was once part of the District of Columbia and under the control of the federal government. However, Congress voted to return all the land Virginia had donated, returning this city to state control. It sits on the bank of the Potomac River.

Today’s Circle of Grace is Pittsburgh, PA (ID #47). Often called the City of Bridges, Pittsburgh is known for its many bridges crossing the two rivers that meet in its middle and the steel industry that was a huge part of fueling the city’s economy and growth. However, with the decline of the steel industry, its major focus shifted to health care, education, and research. Its economy is once again one of the strongest in the U.S.

Today’s Circle of Grace is SW Orlando, FL (ID #147). Often called the theme park capital of the world, Orlando is one of the most visited cities in the U.S. Its tourist attractions and convention centers form the backbone of its economy. Over 51 million tourists visit Orlando every year.

Today’s Circle of Grace is SE Altoona, PA (ID #840). This is another railroad city that experienced decline in recent decades. Although it is still an important railroad repair center, it is a struggling city. It is the headquarters of the popular convenience store and gas station Sheetz.
